Beirut, Lebanon: War and Displacement Through Generations
Myriam Boulos documents the situation in Beirut as civilians remain displaced by Israeli airstrikes
On assignment for the French magazine Le Nouvel Obs, Myriam Boulos worked alongside journalist Doan Bui in Beirut, photographing three multigenerational families to illustrate the impact of consecutive wars and forced displacement on Lebanese civilians.
Documenting life inside homes and on the streets of the capital, Boulos portrays the varied circumstances of being uprooted — from living in tents to buildings reduced to rubble — and how each generation copes with one of the largest displacements in the country’s history.
“As of mid-April 2026, more than 1.2 million people have been forcibly displaced by Israel in Lebanon,” says Boulos. “I am using photography to document, but most importantly to listen to and connect with others, and to support those who are most affected by Israel’s attacks on Lebanon. For more details on where to support, I will be sharing a list of charities and organizations on the Fundraisers section here.”
