Description

Advance your documentary photography skills in a five-day workshop set in the otherworldly landscapes of Cappadocia, Turkey.

Known for its fairy chimneys, cave dwellings, and volcanic terrain, the name Cappadocia is believed to have come from the Old Persian Katpatuka, which many linguists interpret as “the land of beautiful horses.”

We are thrilled to hold a five-day workshop in this exceptional location with Magnum photographer Emin Özmen, a native of Turkey.

Before the start of the workshop, you will have a three-hour online session with Cloé Kerhoas, photo editor who will give you insight of the industry and give you tips on how to establish yourself as a photographer.

During the workshop, bounding in a car all together, participants will explore the region’s sculpted valleys, ancient caves, and soft morning light that have inspired artists for generations. Emin will work closely with participants in developing a photographic project and refining their editing and sequencing skills.

Designed for photographers of all levels, the workshop offers guidance on visual storytelling, documentary techniques, and building strong, emotionally-resonant narratives.

Alongside hands-on field sessions, Emin will host intimate discussions about his creative process, ethical approaches in documentary photography, and practical workflow tips. Whether capturing hot-air balloons drifting above the tuff cliffs or quiet exchanges in Cappadocia’s villages, participants will be encouraged to develop their personal voice and deepen their understanding of their individual expression. This workshop promises a rare opportunity to learn, reflect, and create in one of Turkey’s most iconic landscapes.

At the beginning of each day, participants will reflect on and discuss each other’s work, receive feedback and advice from peers and tutors, and work on image selection and post-production.

Every afternoon, Emin will accompany participants as they dive into the different villages and valleys of Cappadocia, searching for light, color, and stories from everyday life.

The last day of the workshop will be dedicated to editing and sequencing your work into a coherent photographic series.

Workshop participants will:

  • Develop a cohesive documentary photography project using strong visual storytelling techniques
  • Improve technical skills in shooting, editing, and sequencing images in real-world conditions
  • Refine a personal photographic voice and create emotionally engaging narratives
  • Gain professional insight into workflow, ethics, and creative processes in documentary practice
  • Collaborate with peers and mentors to produce and present a final coherent photographic series.

Over the years, we’ve seen photographers face recurring challenges: finding their own voice, building a narrative, editing and sequencing their work, approaching editors with confidence, managing workflows, and archiving for professional use. Our workshop tackles these challenges directly, helping participants sharpen their vision, strengthen their projects, and gain confidence in their practice.” – Emin & Cloé
