Description

Over the course of five weeks, this online workshop with Yael Martínez invites participants to move beyond fixed ideas of photography and enter a more open, intuitive creative process. Rather than focusing solely on producing images, the workshop explores how photographers can expand their relationship with storytelling, memory, perception, and experimentation in order to better understand what truly drives their practice.

Designed for photographers at any stage, the workshop offers a space to overcome creative blocks, rediscover curiosity, and build confidence in one’s visual language. Participants may begin a new body of work or revisit existing images through new perspectives and methods, including writing, sequencing, research, editing, sound, archives, drawing, or other interdisciplinary approaches. The emphasis is not on following a specific technique, but on developing a personal process that allows ideas to evolve freely and organically.

Drawing from his own artistic journey, Martínez will share how his practice has gradually expanded beyond traditional documentary structures toward a more fluid and reflective way of working. Across photography, moving image, installation, and collaborative practices, he approaches image-making as an evolving space where emotion, memory, territory, and identity intersect. His projects explore how personal and collective experiences can be transformed into visual narratives that are both intimate and open-ended.

Throughout the workshop, participants will be encouraged to work from their immediate surroundings and lived experiences, using familiar spaces as a starting point for deeper exploration. Weekly online sessions will function as a collaborative environment for discussion, experimentation, feedback, and reflection. In addition, each participant will receive a private one-on-one session with Martínez for personalized guidance focused on strengthening the direction, meaning, and potential of their work.
