Join Magnum photographer Jérôme Sessini in Mexico City for an intensive week-long workshop exploring intention and the development of a personal photographic language. Working in a small group, participants will receive individualized guidance through portfolio reviews, daily shooting and editing sessions, and a final group critique.
Hosted at the Centro de la Imagen, Mexico’s leading institution dedicated to photography and contemporary visual culture, the workshops bring together Magnum’s educational program with a space that has long been central to the study, exhibition, and preservation of photography in Mexico and across Latin America.
Drawing on his extensive experience as a field photographer, Sessini’s workshop examines both the technical and conceptual foundations of image-making. Through discussion, assignments, and editing, participants will be encouraged to deepen their understanding of why they photograph, how they communicate through images, and how to articulate the ideas behind their work.
“As an instructor, my guiding principle is to cultivate an awareness of intention. My approach is less about teaching rules than encouraging photographers to reflect on what it means to develop a personal practice. I also emphasize the importance of being able to articulate and support your ideas with concrete examples—whether presenting work to an editor, curator, or collaborator. Observation and memory are central to this process: not only what a photograph reveals, but how it is framed, edited, and ultimately understood.” — Jérôme Sessini
Designed for photographers at all stages of their practice, this workshop offers an opportunity to strengthen your visual language, and develop a more thoughtful and intentional approach to documentary photography.
