Description
Join Bieke Depoorter for a 5-day workshop dedicated to editing and sequencing as part of our Inside>>Out program.
Sometimes, when you start a project, you’re unsure why you’re doing it or why you’re choosing a topic. Other times, you feel stuck in an ongoing work or feel like you’ve lost your sense of direction. This in-person workshop is for photographers developing an ongoing body of work who are facing creative uncertainty, complex decisions, or doubts about sequencing and editorial direction. Bieke Depoorter will guide you and help you reflect more deeply on your motivation, identifying what’s missing, what remains unclear, and what you truly want to say through your work. The workshop will focus on editing and sequencing, but you’ll also explore how to ask the right questions and discover new ways to move forward, embracing doubt as part of the creative process rather than as a creative block.
Organised into intensive yet practical sessions of lectures, editing strategies, sequencing exercises, writing exercises, and group reviews, this workshop will help you better understand where your project is going, with a focus on reflection, development, and finding a renewed direction or momentum.
Over these five days, participants will have an opportunity to confront challenges in their practice while being surrounded by a unique atmosphere of openness and support created by Depoorter.
“I would recommend a workshop with Bieke to anyone seeking concrete advice on storytelling and building narrative in their work, as well as discovering new and alternative ways to communicate the premise of their work.” – Participant of the 2024 edition of Inside>>Out
Important: Please bring small (10 x 15 cm) prints of your work. We recommend about 150-200 small, low-quality prints. This is important because you need to be able to work with many prints. Please also bring a hard drive containing all the images you took for this project.
In this workshop, you will:
- Be mentored by a Magnum photographer, Bieke Depoorter
- Receive honest and constructive feedback and a fresh perspective
- Receive professional guidance on shaping your work and strengthening your narrative
- Refine the details and see the bigger picture
- Be part of group discussions and individual exercises
Inside>>Out workshops are open to photographers with a solid understanding of the medium, some experience working on stories rather than single images, and a keen interest in expanding their knowledge of photographic theory and practice during a fast-paced week.
