Short & Sweet – just like the Swedish summer. The long-awaited major exhibition of works by Martin Parr finally opens at Fotografiska Stockholm, featuring nearly 400 works from his more than 50-year-long career. Visitors are invited to step into the legendary photographer’s distinctive visual world, filled with humorous glimpses of everyday life and sharp social satire. Short & Sweet opens at Fotografiska on May 23.
Featuring nearly 400 works spanning over 50 years of Parr’s career, the exhibition brings together a wide selection of his most significant series, offering a comprehensive retrospective of his sharp, satirical, and perceptive approach to portraying everyday life and human behavior. More than a visual journey, Short & Sweet invites us to reflect on human habits, societal shifts, and cultural phenomena.
The exhibition features several of Parr’s most renowned series, including The Non-Conformists, Bad Weather, and The Last Resort. TheNon-Conformists portrays traditional communities in Northern England in transition, offering a poetic reflection on the impact of industrialization. Bad Weather documents the British people’s humor and resilience in extreme weather conditions. The Last Resort presents vivid scenes from seaside holiday destinations, revealing the absurdities of leisure culture.
Together, these series exemplify Parr’s distinctive visual language, where humor and irony transform everyday situations into sharp social commentary.
