This exhibition is the fruit of weeks spent in solitude throughout the valleys between France and Italy, specifically the upper Cuneo valleys in the Piedmont region. The goal was to bear witness to the landscape, capturing it in such a rare and abstract way, yet infused with the full range of emotions the artist has mastered.
From 2003 to 2010, these photographs of the mountainous landscape and scenes of daily life convey a perception of settling in a “frontier” territory, reflecting a close relationship between people and nature—a passage of time still permeated by archaic rhythms.
It is a journey through a reconstruction composed of details, movements, and expressions that evoke a nostalgic reflection on personal and collective fantasies about nature—how slowly it changes and the enduring beauty of the landscape. Accompanying the series are reflections by Jean Gaumy: short texts commenting on the moments of capture and offering unique insight into the evolving nature of the landscape.
