Description

This exhibition offers a compelling selection of images from Martin Parr’s extensive career, spanning over 50 years of relentless and insightful photography.

Beginning with Non-Conformists, a series of black-and-white photographs from the 1970s, Parr celebrates the strong sense of community found in Northern England. The exhibition also features Bad Weather, his final black-and-white project, capturing people’s reactions to rain and snow in candid, often humorous moments.

Parr’s groundbreaking shift to color photography is represented by The Last Resort, taken in the early 1980s and widely regarded as his most iconic work. Following this, Small World, Parr’s project on tourism explores famous destinations worldwide, revealing the stark contrasts between myth and reality.

Dance, an enduring passion for Parr, comes to life in a vibrant series showcasing the wild, infectious energy of the dance floor. The exhibition concludes with a theme Parr has revisited throughout his career—the beach—featuring images from various beach projects across the globe.

Short and Sweet serves as an excellent introduction to one of the most prolific and influential photographers of the contemporary documentary movement, offering viewers a window into Parr’s unique perspective on society and culture.
