Description

Bruce Davidson began a passionate relationship with photography at a very young age. Rather than corresponding to a particular style, his work is characterized by a commitment to a personal view of reality. His craft is not necessarily revealed in individual images, but rather throughout the entirety of his work in the repetition and juxtaposition of themes and characters. Davidson’s charismatic presence earned him intimate access to his subjects’ lives, through which we receive a unique view based on trust and respect.

This exhibition presents a survey of Bruce Davidson’s career, which spans more than 60 years. It focuses on some of the artist’s best-known series, including ‘Brooklyn Gang’ and ‘East 100th Street’ and photographs from the Civil Rights movement. Davidson’s unique style of documentary photography and his interest in the struggles and triumphs of different groups allows for a unique perspective on life in the United States. The exhibition includes 190 prints, presented in 16 thematic sections.
