Description

Join Alessandra Sanguinetti for a six-week online shooting workshop. Alessandra is particularly interested in working with photographers who are ready to take pictures intensely and regularly throughout the workshop, either by continuing an on-going project or starting from scratch.

Each week, we’ll look at new material and talk through the decisions and questions that come with making a documentary project grow. Discussions will weave together the practical and the conceptual: how to approach subjects and gain access, how to navigate ethical questions,  how to build a photography project that is coherent and consistent, while allowing your personal voice to shine through.

To enrich the learning experience, Alessandra will invite guest speakers for informal talks. We’re delighted to confirm Magnum photographer Jim Goldberg and publisher and founder of TBW Books, Paul Schiek. In a special session, Guillermina and Belinda — the protagonists of Alessandra’s book The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and The Enigmatic Meaning of Their Dreams as well as The Illusion of An Everlasting Summer — will join the class to share their perspective, allowing students a rare glimpse into the thoughts of the “photographed” while exploring the ethics of representation.

This workshop is designed as a group class, so a willingness to share your work, give feedback, participate in discussions, and engage with fellow participants is essential. It is a space for those who learn through doing — a space to think with the camera, refine ideas in the field, and listen to images as they reveal what they want to become.

This workshop offers:

  • Mentorship with Magnum photographer Alessandra Sanguinetti – Gain insight and personalized guidance from an internationally acclaimed photographer who will help you kick-start and fine-tune your work.
  • Approaches to defining your photographic voice – Uncover techniques to articulate your unique perspective, allowing your personality and vision to shine through. Develop an authentic style, making your work resonate in your distinct, compelling voice.
  • Group Portfolio Reviews – Gain diverse perspectives on your work, learn from peers, and join a community of dedicated photographers.
  • Individual Portfolio Reviews – Receive focused, detailed feedback on your portfolio during one-to-one sessions with Alessandra Sanguinetti, helping to identify your strengths and areas for growth as you cultivate a distinctive style.
  • Learn from anywhere – Joining an online workshop means you’ll be able to continue a personal project or use the mentoring while on a trip, while easily fitting the program into your usual routine.
