Description
Join Lúa Ribeira in a collective experiment that brings together the power of group work and the growth of each participant’s individual voice, culminating in an exhibition in Yerevan, Armenia.
As a starting point and source of inspiration, you’ll collaboratively choose a concept from a set of initial prompts proposed by Lúa. You’ll spend the first days immersed in the instinctive process of image making, with daily shoots and discussions focused on each participant’s approach. In the final phase, we’ll shift toward reflection—a process of preparing and embracing the work. You’ll edit, select images, print, and shape each series. This will be an opportunity to look back at what we’ve created and think critically about how best to present the work in an exhibition context.
“Since I began working with photography, I’ve found the process of dissemination—how the work is presented to the world—to be one of the most challenging yet crucial aspects. There are many decisions that shape the final impact of the work, and they must be honest and coherent in their intent. Too often, I believe this part of the process is overlooked,” says Lúa Ribeira.
This workshop is an invitation to create a lab-like environment where, together with Lúa and your peers, you’ll explore these questions—digging deep into the possibilities of what it means to show photographic work on the wall. As Lúa explains, “The key is to explore and make thoughtful decisions around format, sequencing, and display that are true to the work within a particular space.”
Public talks by Magnum photographers and a public slideshow will be organized on the final evening as part of the broader Inside>>Out program.
This workshop offers:
- Mentorship from Magnum photographer Lúa Ribeira
- Development of a photographic concept, by choosing and responding to a theme proposed by Lúa Ribeira in collaboration with the group
- Daily photographic production, including shooting, editing, and sequencing
- Critical feedback and peer exchanges to refine visual language and strengthen individual expression
- Skills in curating and exhibiting work, from image selection and printing to arranging and displaying photographs in a physical space
- Insight into dissemination strategies and presenting work honestly and coherently
Inside>>Out workshops are open to photographers with a solid understanding of the medium, some experience working on stories rather than single images, and a keen interest in expanding their knowledge of photographic theory and practice during a fast-paced week.
