The exhibition Gathered Leaves surveys a decade of work by acclaimed American photographer Alec Soth. It brings together five of his most significant series: Sleeping by the Mississippi (2004), Niagara (2006), Broken Manual (2010), Songbook (2012–2014), and his most recent project, A Pound of Pictures (2019).
Soth’s work explores core American ideals—independence, freedom, spirituality, and individuality—captured through scenes of everyday life. At the heart of his photographs is a deep human presence. His intimate portraits go beyond the surface to reveal the emotional undercurrents, personal histories, and quiet longings of his subjects. Guided by a keen, empathetic eye, Soth constructs visual narratives that reflect the complexities and contradictions of American identity.
