Description

Join Magnum photographer Rafał Milach and designer Ania Nałęcka-Milach for a five-day, hands-on workshop dedicated to the art of creating a book dummy.

Whether you’re shaping an existing project or starting from scratch, you’ll explore how editing, sequencing, and design can transform a set of images into a compelling visual narrative.

Throughout the week, Rafał and Ania will guide you through the diverse possibilities of book-making. You’ll experiment with structure, layout, materials, and text, gaining insight into how the photobook form can shape and strengthen the story you want to tell.

If you’re already working on a personal project, you’ll get tailored feedback to help you reframe and reimagine your work. Rafał will challenge you to see your images from new angles, push your ideas further, and explore techniques such as archival research, short creative assignments, and the use of text and typography.

If you don’t have a specific project, you’ll collaborate with your peers to produce a group dummy. After choosing a shared theme and visual direction, you’ll go out and take pictures individually to develop a cohesive book concept by the end of the week.

Both groups will also dive into theory and case studies, learning how sequencing, rhythm, and design choices impact the feel of a book. By the end of the week, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the photobook process and a solid foundation to continue developing your own dummy or publication.

Public talks by Magnum photographers and a public slideshow will be organized on the final evening as part of the broader Inside>>Out program.
