After repeated attacks throughout the years, MSF had no other choice (...)
but to close down its hospital in Leer town, only secondary healthcare facility for around 200,000 people. Since then, MSF teams have continued providing much-needed medical care in several locations south of Bentiu town, most of the time setting up clinics under the trees. The legacy of the conflict in South Sudan impacted heavily on both physical and mental health of the civilian population. In torn apart counties of Leer and Mayendit, the violence has for the past years directly impacted on the ability to provide basic services and respond to humanitarian needs, rendering communities vulnerable to the effects of insecurity, displacements, food shortages, outbreaks of diseases and seasonal floods.
