Description

Magnum Learn invites you on an adventure in one of the most significant historical cities on the Silk Road: Bukhara in Uzbekistan.

Join Thomas Dworzak and Jonas Bendiksen in exploring the ancient city known for its crafts and historical monuments and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The city, once known to the world for its scientists and handicrafts, is now a hub for the production of the most delicate crafts such as carpets, suzani textile, jewelry, mosaics, oriental miniatures and musical instruments.

While visiting, you will find people friendly to guests with cameras and to anyone wanting to take pictures. October is also the best time to visit Bukhara, when the weather is mild.

I’m very excited to go to Bukhara — while I have traveled around Central Asia on various occasions, I have never visited this legendary place. I really look forward to exploring this place together with the students and to seeing the different ways people respond to it visually — Jonas Bendiksen

Fortunately, we will be working with Uzbek photographer Elyor Nemat, a native of Bukhara. Elyor will be with us throughout the workshop, sharing insights about the city and Uzbekistan and guiding participants in finding stories. We will start on Sunday, October 12th in Tashkent with a public talk by Jonas Bendiksen and Thomas Dworzak before traveling as a group on Monday, October 13th to Bukhara.

I am happy to return to one of the most spectacular cities I know, to discover the work of the participants, and to create a new take on this mystical place — Thomas Dworzak
