Caitlin Hughes Appointed New CEO of Magnum Photos

Magnum Photos announces the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer to lead the agency in its 72nd year. Caitlin Hughes joins from the advisory firm, Halios Ltd, which supports early stage companies in the media and tech sectors.

Caitlin will assume responsibility for the agency’s global business, spanning international assignments, IP licensing, e-commerce and events, overseeing offices in Paris, New York, and London. She joins the agency to scale its commercial operations and expand Magnum’s digital services, including the editorial publishing platform magnumphotos.com.

Caitlin has fifteen years of experience in fields of broadcast media, consumer digital and strategy. Prior to founding Halios, she held a number of senior commercial and strategy roles at the BBC driving the growth of BBC Studio’s franchise brands and the performance of sales teams around the world. Between 2008 and 2013 she worked with BBC Radio and BBC Future Media & Technology rolling out a range of online initiatives including iPlayer, iPlayer Radio and BBC Playlister.

Her career began at McCann Erickson before spending five years at global management consultant firm Boston Consulting Group where she worked across various sectors including media and the arts. Caitlin is a Non-Executive Director of Juventus Football Club and a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer of David Nott Foundation. She holds an MA from the Paul H Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, John Hopkins University, and a bachelor’s degree from Oxford University.

The appointment is effective from 30th September 2019. Caitlin replaces David Kogan who left Magnum in March to pursue new ventures.

Thomas Dworzak, Magnum photographer and President, said “This is a hugely exciting announcement for Magnum Photos. Caitlin’s experience working with creative businesses in an international context, together with her knowledge of consumer digital, bring new strengths to Magnum. She has an ambitious vision for the agency’s future that builds on the heritage of our 70 year history.

Commenting on her appointment, Caitlin Hughes said: “I am thrilled and honoured to be leading Magnum in the next chapter of its life. Since the agency was founded in 1947, Magnum photographers have stood out in their field for their deep curiosity and absolute commitment to quality. I look forward to working with very talented teams to develop Magnum’s reputation as the most vibrant and pioneering collective of photographers in the world.
