“‘Adams with SplitScree
(...) n LightLeaks PopArt RedPlastic Vivid and GrungeScratch Camera App Filters (IMG_9879 of IMG_64331)’ is from my project ‘Range: of Masters of Photography,’ for which I rephotograph iconic images of mountains in various online and print media—including Aperture’s Masters of Photography book series—with my iPhone, using various iPhone camera apps to process them through their many filters.
In the process, the original photograph’s surface becomes invisible, hidden under the new photograph, where camera app filters dislodge any perception of stability in the mountains or the photographic medium.
For this Aperture/Magnum project I’ve rephotographed an image, ‘IMG_ 64331,’ from ‘Range’ on my computer screen with my iPhone. Of course, you don’t see the screen (it acts invisibly), but the result is a moiré pattern that reveals a hidden pixel conversation (or argument, depending on how you view it) between screens—iPhone and computer monitor.”
