Matthew Pillsbury Total Eclipse. Jackson, Wyoming, USA. Tuesday, August 21, 2017, 11:36 a.m.
"When I first heard of the 2017 eclipse that would cross the USA, I knew I had to photograph it. I love old pictures of
(...) crowds gathered looking up at this rare phenomenon, and a recent trip to Teotihuacan, Mexico, had increased my interest in experiencing one myself. I researched the areas that would have the longest periods of totality and was drawn to Jackson, Wyoming, for the beauty of the landscape. Initially, I was not planning on including the sun in my frame, choosing to focus on the gathered people and the landscape behind them. However, as the light began to change, and the temperature dropped in the moments before totality, I changed my mind. I ran across the field and got into position only moments before the sun was fully obscured. The two minutes that followed were some of the most eerie and magical I have experienced."
