“Children having fun inside a water tower -- I have no doubt it's a spot I wouldn't have discover
(...) ed without photography. This image is from Escaping the Heatwave, a project that shows the plight of youngsters who are ready to do anything to escape a blazing sun. What intrigued me was the fact that they were doing this in a genuine way that made me forget about the hostility of their environment, so that I could focus on the aesthetics. A crucial element that I didn't understand at first is that there is something oddly photogenic about all that is vicious. It is our duty as photographers to control this dilemma. We usually make pictures of something or someone because there is beauty in what we see. Here is a question that I ask myself quite often: What is beauty exactly when it comes to photography? And what are its limits?”
