Description

The Spanish Civil War was a turning point of David ‘Chim’ Seymour’s career.

This contact sheet contains photos of the Spanish poet, playwright and theatre director Federico Garcia Lorca, who gained recognition as an emblematic member of Generation of ’27. These images were found in the so-called ‘Mexican Suitcase’, three boxes filled with over 4,500 negatives by Chim, Gerda Taro and Robert Capa, from the Spanish Civil War, considered lost since 1939 and recovered in 2007.

In 1947, along with Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, George Rodger, and William Vandivert, David ‘Chim’ Seymour founded Magnum Photos.
