Paolo Pellegrin A Roma family of Bosnian origin in a temporary encampment. The outskirts of Rome, Italy. 1995.
“This image, made on a film camera, is nearing 30 years old now. While a technical error, it is an ex (...)
ample of the magic that analogue photography can offer. When shooting on film, the images we make are latent — ghost images that only live in our minds, until they are later developed. The process allows for mystery and creates a space in which the unexpected can occur. As the photographer, you are in control, but there’s a part of the process that lives outside that control, and there’s great beauty in that. Here, an error becomes something else: something unintended becomes beautiful, to be found years later and appreciated.”
