Description

The carnival is a centuries-old tradition, which is particularly prevalent in the Rhineland. Outside of Germany, the carnival in Venice and in Rio de Janeiro are the two most famous forms of this festival. The exhibition on the second floor of the Photography Forum shows different perspectives of the carnival and how its changed over time. A special highlight is a series of photos by Richard Kalvar, which he took during the 2019/20 Aachen Carnival, in which he attempts to make the various aspects of this phenomenon tangible. You can expect interactive elements and useful information about the history of the carnival in the region.
