In 1969, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Phillip and Princess Anne visited Vienna during their first official state visit to Austria from May 5–7. Photographer Thomas Hoepker, then 32 years old, traveled to Vienna to make photographs of the Queen during the trip, including her visit to the Opera House. Hoepker was at that time a photo reporter for Stern magazine, and Magnum had already been distributing his photographs since 1964.
