Description

In Midnight at the Crossroads, Cristina de Middel explores the roots and representation of African spirituality across four different countries: Benin, Cuba, Brazil, and Haiti. Working alongside her husband and collaborator, artist Bruno Morais, de Middel delves into the symbolism of the spiritual force of Èsù and its meaning to different people. The resulting project, which reads more like a film narrative than traditional photo documentary, reimagines the way in which African-rooted religions are generally represented.
