A selection of historic Contact Sheets by Magnum photographers are available as high quality, unsigned, contemporary 16×20″ prints. These contact prints offer the opportunity to own a piece of Magnum’s history.

Joan Crawford preparing for a role on a film shoot, photographed in Los Angeles, California, in 1959, for LIFE magazine. This contact sheet features extreme close-ups of the famed actress captured by Eve Arnold. Arnold had gained Crawford’s trust three years previous. Indeed, their first interaction involved a drunk Crawford arriving to a shoot, stripping off all her clothes and demanding that she be shot naked. Concerned that she would be furious with the outcome of the images, Arnold gave her back the negatives without showing them to anyone else. Touched by her loyalty, Crawford granted Arnold this intimate photo session.

Arnold first became associated with Magnum Photos in 1951, and became a full member in 1957. She was based in the US during the 1950s but went to England in 1962 to put her son through school; except for a six-year interval when she worked in the US and China, she lived in the UK for the rest of her life.

Giclée print, 16×20”, stamped w. Uneditioned.

Reproducing the original without alteration and enlarged to a 16″x20″ paper size, these Magnum Contacts offer a unique insight into the methods by which our photographers produced some of their best known images, by clearly showing the sequence of frames and the marks of the editing process on each sheet.

These prints are embossed ‘Magnum Photos Collection’ on the white border in the bottom right corner and hand stamped with the photographers copyright on the back.
