Burt Glinn Actor Christopher Reeve as Superman. Flying effects with director Richard Donner supervising in the foreground. USA. 1978.
“This photo was taken by Burt on the set of ‘Superman’, the original 1978 (...)
film directed by Richard Donner, the chap in the tan safari jacket in the photo. Christopher Reeve was basically unknown to the movie world at the time,, but received rave reviews for his depiction of Clark Kent as well as our superhero. Margot Kidder starred as the love interest and Marlon Brando played Joe-El, the Kryptonian father, while Gene Hackman played the evil Lex Luther.
Lying on the plexi board plank and artfully draped to hide the platform, Reeve spent much time on set ‘flying’ around the world. Burt loved covering film productions and getting to know the actors: he already knew some of the producers on ‘Superman’ from previous shoots. Imagine if we had Superman today... to clean up world corruption, tackle blazing forest fires ripping across the West Coast, and to maybe even find an instant cure for the raging coronavirus.”
