A Statement from Magnum Photos
Conclusion of investigation into a behavior of a photographer following a complaint.
Magnum Photos has concluded an investigation into allegations against the personal conduct of one of its photographers, Gueorgui Pinkhassov.
Magnum takes complaints such as these extremely seriously and in line with Magnum’s code of conduct, the company launched an external, independent investigation led by a specialist law firm.
On the basis of the investigation’s findings, the board concludes that a private matter occurred between established friends and professionals, which was unrelated to Magnum activities. No firm conclusions can be drawn about events that took place, and there are different interpretations by both parties.
Nonetheless some of Mr Pinkhassov’s behaviors fell short of the standard of conduct that is expected of Magnum photographers.
Magnum has issued a warning to Mr Pinkhassov and he has started a compulsory course of sensitivity training.
In line with our policy, and given the need to protect those who come forward and maintain trust in the process, Magnum will not be providing any further information.
Pinkhassov joined Magnum Photos in 1988. He stepped down from full membership in 2017, continuing as a contributor. Magnum is committed to working in an open and accountable way that builds trust and confidence with those in our industry, and beyond.
