As part of the official program of Paris Nuit Blanche 2019, and in partnership with Amnesty International, photographers Olivia Arthur and Philipp Ebeling will exhibit a three-screen installation of their documentary project “TiChan”. The film, soundtracked by Nimzo Studio, is an exploration of the personal and psychological processes that underpin the gender transition of Thibaut to Charlotte.
“We began collaborating with TiChan when he contacted us in the summer of 2018. He was just at the beginning of a long journey to change from Thibaut to Charlotte and wanted this process to be documented. It would take four years before the physical transition would be complete and the psychological and social changes would last even longer. We committed to follow the journey all the way through and he suggested that we call him TiChan as an in-between name, a bit of Thibaut and a bit of Charlotte.
We have begun documenting the physical changes that are starting to take place in TiChan’s body. In 2020, TiChan will begin surgery in addition to his hormonal treatment. But the physical changes represent only one dimension of the transformation, which also includes psychological and social changes. We explore the emotional world of his past as Thibaut, shaped by denial, suppression, anger and the overriding feeling of being in the wrong body. TiChan wants to show every aspect of his journey to raise public awareness on transgender issues.”
The exhibition will take place at the Town Hall of the 12th arrondissement of Paris on the night of October 5th 2019. Click here to access the official program of Nuit Blanche event.
