With a roving critical eye, Martin Parr deconstructs the utterly banal and quotidian moments of everyday life, exposing our cultural idiosyncrasies with his own personal brand of dry, irreverent wit.

Kunstfoyer der Versicherungskammer Kulturstiftung in Munich will stage a comprehensive survey of the photographer’s documentary photography. Conceived by the photographer himself, the exhibition bears the hallmark Parr tropes, zooming in on consumption, tourism or national identities often to humorous effect.

Entitled ‘Souvenir’, the touring exhibit aims to explore the relationship between collecting and photography – with Parr its enigmatic helmsman. The photographer’s work encapsulates these two distinct realms of creative practice, that equally share affinities and contradictions. Ultimately, positioning and celebrating Parr as a vital “chronicler of our age”.
