Magnum Workshops and Master Class in Hong Kong
New Magnum masterclass to take place in Hong Kong with Abbas, Antoine d'Agata, Nikos Economopoulos, and Patrick Zachmann
During Le French May Arts Festival 2016, Magnum Photos is proud to announce a new educational program in Hong Kong that will be taking place from June 1 to 12, with generous support from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design.
The program will be lead by photographers, Patrick Zachmann, Antoine d’Agata, Nikos Economopoulos and Abbas. Over the 12 days, emerging photographers will have the opportunity to develop their visual language and personal body of work.
Through a course of shooting workshops, masterclasses, talks and presentations, each event will offer the opportunity to learn new skills and overcome common challenges to help with performing in a competitive market.
Magnum Masterclass with Abbas – June 1- 3, 2016
With space for up to 12 near professional students, who should be motivated and willing to work very hard for three days, the course will be led by Iranian-French photographer, Abbas, who has the reputation of exhausting his students, as well as and himself.
Abbas’s approach is to allow students to discover for themselves how they can improve their photography and their editing.
On the last evening, Abbas will also present his work.
Magnum Workshop & Talk with Patrick Zachmann, Antoine d’Agata, and Nikos Economopoulos – June 8 – 12, 2016
From June 8 to 12, 2016, Magnum photographers Patrick Zachmann, Antoine d’Agata and Nikos Economopoulos will run a five-day intensive workshop to be held at PolyU Design.
During the five days, they will lead their groups through a daily program of shooting, reviews, group critiques, mentoring, editing, as well as the opportunity to learn from their peers and develop each own visual language.Participants will work with their lead tutors to create an edit to be shown in the culminating workshop presentation. The presentation will take place at PolyU on the June 12th at 6.30pm.
Participants will create an edit with guidance from their tutor and at the end of the five-day course their work with be displayed at a presentation that will take place at PolyU on the June 12 at 6.30pm.
In addition to the workshop, Patrick Zachmann, Antoine d’Agata and Nikos Economopoulos will give a free public talk at the Jockey Club Innovation Tower Innovation Think Tank on June 11.
Talk: So Long, China 1982-2015 with Patrick Zachmann – June 10, 2016
During one exclusive evening, the Alliance Française in Hong Kong will welcome Patrick Zachmann to talk about his work on China, to coincide with his major exhibition So long, China 1982-2015, presented at La Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris and the publication of his book by Xavier Barral.
