Magnum Photos is excited to announce its new Masterclass in Singapore as part of our 70th anniversary program in Asia with Chris Steele-Perkins.

From August 25th to 27th, 2017, Chris Steele-Perkins will lead a group of 15 participants in the intimate atmosphere of DECK. This intensive three-day masterclass focusses on the realisation of healthy self-criticism in relation to the production of a body of work within the context of documentary photography, which aims to motivate the development of a personal vision and approach.

Through a daily program of reviews, group critiques, mentoring and editing sessions, participants will develop their own visual language and ability to tell a story visually.

Participants will be automatically offered some reserved spaces for the exclusive Magnum Photos’ talk organized at DECK – details to be announced soon.

“This workshop is aimed, in a few short days, to make you challenge your ideas on photography by provoking you to a more critical evaluation of your work, and to stimulate you to consider ideas of good and bad photography and how and why you think in these terms. Understanding this, to point you in the direction of improving your work.

This will be done by portfolio review of your work made by by myself with the participation of the other workshop students – group discussion – consideration of some photographic books and the importance of sequencing and layout and text – short photographic exercises – ideas about editing photographs. Additionally there will be a presentation of my work and practice, and a presentation about Magnum Photos.” – Chris Steele Perkins
