Description
Join Moises Saman for a 5-day workshop delving into every photographer’s journey.
“Photography has been my way of searching for truth, connection, and belonging in a world that often feels devoid of them. Over more than two decades, my work has evolved—from chasing the spectacle of war to questioning the very narratives we construct. This workshop is built on that journey—on the lessons I’ve learned about what it means to truly see, to bear witness, and to tell stories that matter.
But this workshop isn’t just about my story—it’s about yours. Everyone brings their own experiences, their own history, and their own way of interpreting the world. Photography is not just about capturing what’s in front of us; it’s about understanding what shapes our vision and why we are drawn to certain stories. Over the course of five days, we will explore how our personal histories inform our work, challenge our assumptions, and push us toward greater honesty in our storytelling.
Through a combination of group discussions, hands-on shooting and editing exercises, and collaborative critiques, we will engage in an open dialogue about the challenges of our craft—the self-doubt, the ethical dilemmas, and the moments of uncertainty that every photographer faces.
The goal is to create a space where we can be honest about our insecurities, support one another in pushing through creative blocks, and discover new ways to expand our visual vocabulary in the service of storytelling. Too often, photographers work in isolation, facing these struggles alone. Here, we will build a temporary community of trust, where every participant’s voice is valued and their perspective respected.
This will not be a one-way lecture, but an exchange—an immersive experience where we learn from each other, build trust, and create a space where vulnerability is not only encouraged but essential.
Each day will focus on a different aspect of the photographer’s journey, applying these lessons directly to shooting exercises. We will begin with the foundations of visual storytelling, breaking down how images function within larger narratives and exploring how composition, light, and sequencing shape meaning. From there, we will dive into the ethics of bearing witness—examining the difficult choices photographers face in conflict zones and communities in crisis, and how to navigate these challenges with integrity. As the week progresses, we will shift toward long-form documentary work, discussing how to sustain a project over years, how to strike a balance between journalism and personal vision, and how to adapt to the industry’s evolving landscape while staying true to one’s voice.
Participants are also encouraged to bring an ongoing or future project to work on throughout the week. Through in-depth critiques and sequencing sessions, we will refine not just the technical aspects of the work but the intent behind it. What story are you trying to tell? Why does it matter? How do you ensure your images move beyond the surface? How do you make your work resonate beyond the immediate news cycle? These are the questions we will tackle together.
For me, photography has always been about searching for meaning—whether in a war zone or in the quieter, more intimate spaces of human resilience. This workshop is for those who are ready to take that search deeper, to challenge themselves, and to create work that lingers, that unsettles, that demands to be seen. But more than that, it is a chance to forge connections—with fellow photographers, with the people we document, and with ourselves. By the end of this workshop, I want every participant to leave not only with a clearer vision for their work but with a sense of shared purpose and belonging.” – Moises Saman
