Workshop

Monday 7 July

Objective: Get introduced to the workshop and begin sharing and discussing participants’ work to set a foundation for the week.

9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Presentation by Sabiha Çimen followed by the projection and discussion of participants’ work

5:00 p.m. – late: Individual shooting time

Tuesday 8 July

Objective: Develop and refine project ideas through group critique and constructive feedback, while continuing individual shooting practice.

9:00 a.m.: Discussion of everyone’s project idea, group critique of the work shot the night before

1:00 p.m.: Individual shooting time

Wednesday 9 July

Objective: Deepen the critique process to refine and improve participants’ images, with a focus on personal growth and development.

9:00 a.m.: Group critiques of the work shot the night before

1:00 p.m. Individual shooting time

Thursday 10 July

Objective: Continue to work on refining photographic practice through ongoing critiques and individual shooting.

Friday 11 July

Objective: Finalize and edit work for presentation, demonstrating progress and personal artistic development throughout the week.

Sabiha Çimen was born in Istanbul, Turkey, in 1986. She is a self-taught photographer, focusing on women, Islamic culture, portraiture, and still life. Çimen graduated from Istanbul Bilgi University with an undergraduate degree in international trade and finance, and a master’s degree in cultural studies.

In 2021, Çimen was honored with the Light Work Artist Residency. In 2020, she was named a W. Eugene Smith Fund recipient, was awarded the Canon Female Photojournalist Grant, and won second prize in the Long-Term Projects category at the World Press Photo Awards. In 2018, she won third prize in the PHmuseum Women Photographers Grant. For her debut book, Hafiz (2021), she received the Paris Photo/Aperture First PhotoBook Award.

Çimen joined Magnum Photos in 2020, became an associate member in 2022, and a full member in 2024. She lives between Istanbul and New York.

Terms and Conditions

• Full fees must be paid on prior to the start of the workshop. • Magnum Photos reserves the right to cancel groups with less than 9 participants. Students will be given a full refund. In the event of cancellation, students will be given at least 3 weeks advance notice. • Magnum Photos reserves the right to change or alter the program advertised. • Cancellations: Magnum will reimburse all the registration costs except for a 10% of the costs for administrative fee if you inform us of cancellation at least 90 days before the first day of the Workshop. Beyond this time limit, we will charge the following: 50% of the cost if cancelled between 89 and 60 days before the Workshop commences. 100% of the cost if cancelled less than 60 days before the Workshop commences.
