Description

For the third year in a row, thanks to the generous support of Fujifilm Turkey, Magnum photographer Emin Özmen invites you to step into the vibrant streets of Istanbul and develop a photography project in his home country.

With over 2,500 years of history, Istanbul’s unique location at the crossroads of Europe and Asia has given rise to a vibrant and diverse culture. The city provides photographers and artists with endless opportunities to explore and capture its distinctive blend of influences.

This five-day workshop is designed as an opportunity to reflect on your photographic career and approach. To get you started, Cloé Kerhoas will give an online lecture on Professional Practice, including advice on reaching out to editors, securing funding for your photo projects, and building an online presence.

On-site, as a first step, you will explore the city alongside your peers and Emin to familiarize yourself with Istanbul’s history, cultural landmarks, and neighborhoods. The following days will be dedicated to experimenting with new approaches and improving your technical and narrative skills to create a meaningful selection of work by the end of the workshop.

Fujifilm Turkey will loan camera equipment free of charge for those who want to try out new gear.

It opened my eyes to different styles of photography and made me curious to explore them,” says a participant from last year’s workshop in Istanbul.

This workshop offers:

  • A unique opportunity to discover Istanbul with a native Turkish photographer
  • A structure that invites you to take pictures every day, and improve your practice thanks to daily critiques sessions.
  • Tools to contact industry professionals and submit your photo projects
  • An environment conducive to experimenting with photographic genres you are not used to
  • A One-on-one session with Emin Özmen: receive personalized feedback on the work you produced and how to improve it
  • Group review sessions with Emin Özmen and your peers: engage in group discussions to gain diverse perspectives on your work, learn from peers, and develop a sense of community through shared experiences.

The workshop is open to photographers of all levels, from passionate amateurs to working professionals who want to further refine their skills.
