Bill Armstrong | Bill Armstrong (Aperture) Portrait #302. 2000.
"Portrait #302 is from a portfolio in my ‘Infinity’ series from the early 2000s. It is made from a collage of found images rephotographed out of focus. The series reworks the
(...) format of the traditional bust with the mysterious, and perhaps disturbing, idea of a blank portrait where the features are unseen. The images rely on color, shape, and posture to create psychological portraits that articulate a range of human emotions, even though the subjects’ identities remain hidden. I try to create images that have a sense of the universal or familiar that the viewer can identify with—that the portraits can mirror—while at the same time remaining inscrutable and even alien.”
