Magnum Photos and British Journal of Photography have teamed up to offer a brand new programme of professional development workshops. Publishing and Photobooks is the final workshop in the series.

Each workshop is a two-day photographic masterclass that focuses on demystifying the business of the industry, establishing a professional network of industry contacts, understanding the requirements of the market and identifying entry realistic routes into employment.

Led by leading Magnum photographers and industry professionals, the programme presents incredible training opportunities for early & mid career photographers.

The first day focuses on lectures from key speakers on specific areas of the photographic industry, giving behind the scenes tips and practical advice explaining how to work and succeed in their area of expertise. A second day of portfolio reviews lead by industry specialists will provide photographers with an honest, constructive and critique of existing work.

Each workshop is open to 40 applicants and places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Workshops will be held at the Magnum Print Room, 63 Gee Street, London, EC1V 3RS

Publishing and photo books - how to edit and publish your work

Learn from the best publishers and photobook producers about the publishing market: covering how to approach publishers, modes of production, design, editing, and budgets.

<b>Speakers include:</b>
Aron Mörel, founder of Mörel Books. Aron will speak about how Mörel books, an independent publisher of artist books, works with artists and photographers.

Mark Power, Magnum photographer. Mark will speak about his publishing career, from his first publication, The Shipping Forecast, to his soon to be published DTLFTSOTE.

Murray Ballard, who will speak about the experience of publishing his first book. The Prospect of Immortality was published in April 2016 by GOST Books.

Hannah Watson, Director of Trolley Books and contemporary art gallery TJ Boulting. Established in 2001, Trolley Books publish a diverse range of titles presenting unique stories in photography, photojournalism and contemporary art. In particular Trolley has championed the work of many photographers often publishing their first book, including those of Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin, Paolo Pellegrin, Alex Majoli, Stanley Greene, Nina Berman, Robin Maddock and Alixandra Fazzina. In 2005 Trolley Books received a special commendation from the Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards for its outstanding contribution to photography book publishing. Hannah Watson joined Trolley in 2005 and continues the legacy of its founder Gigi Giannuzzi, who died at the end of 2012.

<b>Portfolio reviews</b>

Portfolio reviews are ran in group sessions, and each participant will attend two portfolio review sessions. Please state your preferences when applying, or we will be in touch following your application. Please note that we endeavour to give you your first choice where possible, but this is based on demand.

Harry Hardie, founder of HERE Press. Here Press is an independent publisher dedicated to exploring documentary photography in book form.

Aron Mörel, Mörel Books. Mörel Books is an independent publisher specialising in limited edition art book.

Hannah Watson, Director of Trolley Books. Trolley Books publish a diverse range of titles presenting unique stories in photography, photojournalism and contemporary art.
