Sectarian Violence in Syria
On assignment for The New York Times, Nanna Heitmann documented the response to rising sectarian violence in Syria. Since Assad’s fall, attacks on religious minorities have surged alongside reforms led by a Sunni Muslim–majority government. The violence began with a March massacre of Alawites — Assad’s sect — followed by assaults on the Druze community.
