"Heart of Spain" is the first volume to be devoted entirely to the finest of Robert Capa's photographs from the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939). Capa is renown for his images of war, and the photographs collected here are some of the most accurate and emotional pictures of front-line action ever taken.
Armed only with his camera, Capa personalized the struggle of the Spanish Loyalists, illuminated the strength and the courage of the soldiers who carried on beyond insufferable odds, and galvanized compassion for the innocent and injured. In addition to over one hundred duotone images by Capa, "Heart of Spain" also features three compelling essays by Richard Whelan, Catherine Coleman, and Juan P. Fusi Aizpúrua that place the photographs within their cultural and historical milieu.
