“In 1975, nearly thirty-five years ago, I was riding a bicycle through my neighborhood in Little Italy when suddenly a blast of light flashed into my eyes, blinding me for a moment. Its source was a group of girls fooling around with a mirror trying to reflect the sun on my face. That was the day I met the Prince Street Girls, the name I gave the group that hung out on the nearby corner almost every day. The girls were from small Italian-American families and they were almost all related. I was the stranger who didn’t belong.” – Susan Meiselas, 2013
Prince Street Girls is a previously unpublished body of work made between 1975-1978 in New York’s Little Italy. The photographs portray a small group of girls becoming young women in a neighborhood that has now totally transformed.
This limited edition catalog was published in conjunction with an installation of Prince Street Girls, which opened in November 2013 at Galerie Hug, Paris. This limited edition catalog comes with a signed 4.72 x 6.69” inkjet print in an envelope.
This is number 23/30, Signed by Susan Meiselas.
