Family Album. - CANADA. Lambton County, Ontario. 1995. After his friend shaved his head, Moses TOWELL lies on a hand crocheted bedspread that his mother Ann made. His bedroom window faces the south pasture. You can hear the cows in the morning grazing by the window, or at night, moving in a herd. Moses shaved his head as it was the style at the time. Even country boys can be in style. Moses went away to camp this summer, bald head and all. - Larry Towell

Moses is seen through the door which was made by a friend of mine from oak boards that I had salvaged from an old house that was being torn down on the St. Clair River. I brought the water buffalo skull back from Vietnam in 1990 when I travelled with a dozen U.S. war veterans who returned to rebuild a health clinic near Hanoi. The porch is covered with old worn cedar. Ann's hair is braided as usual. - Larry Towell

Family Album. - CANADA. Lambton County, Ontario. 1995. Naomi and Noah TOWELL play house and with their pets using the back of the pickup as their home. They are feeding the dogs and cats from their play meal and using a toy wagon as a kitchen table. I had made the wagon for their brother Moses when he was 4 or 5 years old and gave it to him for Christmas. It was built from wood scraps and salvaged wheels which I had in the workshop at the time. Family Album. - CANADA. Lambton County, Ontario. 1995. Isaac TOWELL drinks from a bottle and standing on the picnic table under which sits a pet raccoon of approximately 3 moths of age. The coon, Copernicus, and his brother, Einstein, were taken from a nest in one of the hollow locust trees that line our road. According to local folklore, the double row of hollow trees were planted by the families of runaway slaves who escaped through the underground railroad and ended up here in Ontario. To the right, out of the frame, is a cluster of pine trees where a pioneer homestead once stood. Naomi has a penchant for arranging wildflower bouquets on the kitchen table.
