Carnival Films, the multi-award winning producer of Downton Abbey, joins forces with legendary photographic agency Magnum Photos to dramatise the story of the most famous photo-agency in the world. Currently in development, drama series 'Magnum' follows its founders Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, George Rodger and David ‘Chim’ Seymour who believed the photographer could make the world a safer place. Courageous, passionate, idealistic, inquisitive, these men set out to capture the world that survived the war.

Since its founding in 1947, the photographers of the Magnum Photos agency have covered the world’s most historic moments and captured the most iconic images of our time. With cameras in hand and private lives often in turmoil, Magnum’s photographers sacrificed everything to capture history through the lens. Magnum will tell of the human stories of love, honour, laughter, betrayal and heartbreak that existed at the agency’s Paris HQ, whilst capturing the action and danger the photographers experienced travelling the world’s hotspots in the second half of the 20th Century.

The series, which is out to writers will be executive produced by Carnival’s Richard Fell (Spies of Warsaw, Blood & Oil, Inspector Lynley).

Carnival Films Managing Director Gareth Neame says: “Magnum is an extraordinary and unique organisation, with a powerful history and an amazing story to tell. We can get right inside the key events of the second half of the 20th Century through the lives and lenses of these photographers in a bold and completely original way. We are enormously excited to be working with them on a drama which will bring such a cool and compelling story to a much wider audience.”

“At Magnum we have spent 67 years telling stories of the world through our photographers and their work. We are delighted to be working with Carnival to tell the story of our founding photographers and how it all began,” says David Kogan, Executive Director Magnum Photos.
