The Daily Gallery
December 21, 2012
Today is the winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere, the shortest day of the year and the climax of the constantly creeping darkness that has eaten away at our afternoons since the peak of summer. It's a paradoxical moment, a universal benchmark that marks a large-scale end of one thing and beginning of another.

Looking forward to longer days and a bit more sun, the Daily Gallery presents images of the depths of winter from the Magnum archive.
