Happy New Year
Although we have all sorts of objective units of measurement to track time, there's no doubt that time is, in some ways, subjective -- that some years feel shorter than others, that ten minutes in the dentist chair feels a whole lot longer than ten minutes of sound sleep. But the ringing in of the New Year erases that subjectivity, leaving us all on equal footing as the clock strikes midnight and we're presented with a blank slate. It's certainly a cause for celebration, not just because a year has passed and another has arrived, but because for a split second, we're all connected by something universal, something greater than ourselves.
