Peter Marlow's new book 'The English Cathedral'

October 4, 2012
by Peter Marlow
Peter Marlow’s beautiful new hardback book ‘The English Cathedral’ is published this week.

Over a period of three years he photographed, in large format, the naves of all of England’s forty two Cathedrals, uniquely in natural light at dawn with all their artificial lighting turned off.

This remarkable collection brings into sharp relief these English architectural masterworks. The book is introduced by the Victoria and Albert Museum’s senior curator of photography, Martin Barnes; his text explaining how this new work fits into the long tradition of church photography in England. There is a commentary on the project by Marlow illustrated with notes and his preparatory Polaroids, and a concise summary of each cathedral interior by architectural historian John Goodall.

The book is published by Merrell, with a limited casebound Collectors Edition in a specially made clothbound folio with a signed original print.
