The Daily Gallery
October 23, 2012
The New York City subway system is a world all its own -- an alternate universe of forced intimacy and camaraderie that stands in stark contrast to the streets that lie above. It's in this dark, gritty and idiosyncratically urban environment that Bruce Davidson shot his first extensive series in color, published in 1986. The Daily Gallery explores Davidson's subterranean opus with a selection of images that illustrates Davidson's uncanny ability to capture the humanity that is laid bare in the cars and on the platforms of the New York City subway system.
