The Daily Gallery
November 21, 2012
Sure, Thanksgiving is, for the most part, a great excuse to reconnect with family and partake in a collective epicurean gorge of all the traditional fare, but there's no doubt that Americans (and about a month earlier, Canadians) cherish the holiday for a few other reasons. First, there is the obvious, it's-right-there-in-the-name, obligatory moment of reflection and perspective that takes place when we ask ourselves what we are thankful for. But somewhere beyond that, Thanksgiving offers those who celebrate it an opportunity to look around a room full of people that they are, for better or worse, inextricably tied to, and remember that they are part of something larger than themselves -- that no matter who we are or where we come from, we are creatures of community who are never alone.

So today, The Daily Gallery features Thanksgiving images from the Magnum Archive, and wishes those who celebrate it, a happy holiday on behalf of the entire Magnum Photos collective.
