The Daily Gallery
November 27, 2012
The moment you try to label Jimi Hendrix, calling him a "musical genius," or the "greatest guitarist in history," or simply a "rock legend," you get that sensation that you're committing some blasphemous pigeonholing -- none of those designations or characterizations quite do Hendrix justice. But maybe that's the nature of true greatness; it exposes the shortcomings of language. Hendrix's fluency with the guitar, his ability to elucidate his artistic soul without losing anything in translation, was unlike anything the world had ever seen.

Today, Jimi Hendrix would have been seventy-years-old, and the Daily Gallery celebrates the occasion with a short slideshow of images of him from the Magnum archive, and this fantastic instrumental version of Bold As Love.
