PHOTO PROJECT WORKSHOP 2013 with Alex Webb and Rebecca Norris Webb

July 2, 2013
by Alex Webb
Class limit: 10 photographers

There are a few places left in the annual Photo Project Workshop, designed for photographers currently working on a long-term photographic project that they are passionate about. Over the week, participants will edit and sequence their photographs from this project (35-120 small prints), write an introduction/artist statement and title, and by the end of the workshop, will have worked one-on-one with a designer to create a book cover or exhibition catalogue cover. The workshop is taught by Alex and Rebecca, a creative team who often edit projects together, including their joint book and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, exhibition, Violet Isle, and their upcoming second joint book, “Memory City” (spring, 2014). Between the two of them, they have produced some dozen photographic books as well as many exhibitions around the world.

The main emphasis in this workshop is on focusing and shaping a project into a coherent whole. For some participants, this may result in a layout of a photographic exhibition and perhaps a catalogue; for others, it may result in a book dummy to be shown to potential photo book publishers; for others, the project workshop may result in an edit for a future self-published online book or perhaps mockup for future handmade artist’s book.

To apply: please send 10 small jpgs (72dpi, 8 inches across on longest side or online link to at least 10 images from your project as well as a short artist statement about the project (not more than 250 words in a word doc) to Alex and Rebecca.
