France is home to the largest number of Muslims in Western Europe with between 5 and 10 percent of the population identifying themselves as such. Beginning in the 1960's, large numbers of Muslim immigrants began arriving in France, most coming from France's former North African territories. Though studies suggest that French-Muslims integrate well into French society and generally have a positive attitude in regard to the nation and their fellow citizens, the majority of immigrants and their offsprings live together in large working-class suburban housing developments.
