by Magnum Photographers
Magnum Photos is proud to participate to the 2015 Workshop program, resulting of the collaboration between Camera – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia and Leica Akademie Italy. On this occasion, some of the most renowned Magnum photographers will lead exclusive masterclasses in some of the most beautiful cities in Italy. To start this unique period Magnum Photos is delighted to announce one 3-day workshop with Jean Gaumy in Forte di Bard which will be followed by one two-day workshop with Jérôme Sessini in Roma.

The both workshops are a unique opportunity, in a different way, depending on the photographer, to shoot and polish some new material, develop an individual project and refine a visual identity through a daily program of shooting, reviews, group critiques, mentoring and editing sessions.

Jean Gaumy – “Beyond the Appearances”

The workshop with Jean Gaumy is a three-day practice-focused photography workshop that will be held in the lovely Forte di Bard, in Aosta Valley from July 17th to July 19th. Jean Gaumy will guide an intimate group of 17 participants in French (translation provided).

Aimed not only at photographers with a good understanding of photographic practice, this workshop is also intended for participants with a streak for natural landscapes and who want to live a sensitive experience. Under the guidance of a photographer whose work straddles documentary and abstract styles, different approaches and narrative forms will be explored in order to observe a pure, evocative and peculiar environment such as the mountains.

Jérôme Sessini – “Documentary Photography and the Right Distance”

The workshop with Jérôme Sessini is a two-day practice-focused photography workshop that will be held in the splendid Roma from October 3rd to October 4th. Jérôme Sessini will guide an intimate group of 15 participants in Italian.

«I don’t like rigid categories. Sometime there is art in journalism and journalism in art. Conscience, heart, beauty, balance and loss of balance are essentials for me».
Jérôme Sessini

Intended for photographers or photography students with a good understanding of photographic practice, this workshop will aim to question the contradictory tension, which characterizes documentary photography in order to develop and/or refine a visual position. Candidates will spend the two days alongside Jérôme Sessini by investigating the relationship between veracity and personal interpretation into a quest for a personal balance.
